Review by Vinny Moran 1Last night, me and my brother tookl off headed south psyched for a night of Bob. Well, to say it was disappointing is an understatement! I wont go through the concert song by song, but highlight what we thought were worthy. Bob needs to re-work his set list. Besides Visions of Johana, Highway 61 & Thunder on the Mountain, everything sounded the same, and Bob you can't make Shelter From the Storm into an old blues number, it didn't work. Review by Howard Weiner Q. With all the magnificent songs at your disposal, why do you play Spirit on the Water every night? Maybe Bob likes hearing the crowd roar after he sings, “You say I’m over the hill/ think I’m past my prime.” I don’t. This song is dull musically, and it’s lyrically inferior to anything else in his rotation. A short explosive Highway 61 snapped us all out of the Spirit malaise. Q. Your Cowboy Band continues to sound great. You called them the best band you ever had in Rolling Stone. Why then, do the instrumentals keep getting shorter and shorter? ... It turned out to be another fine night, but I’m a little puzzled by the lack of flexibility in the set lists and the lack of improvisation during the instrumental segments on this tour, especially since Dylan and the Cowboy Band sound like they are on top of their game. Review by Ian Fred Parfrey Girl of the North Country - again an expletive must be used here...fu**cking majestic, gorgeous, beautiful. Bob croooneed and purrrredd these words like a fucking cherub, and the band's articulation was infallible. The song crescendoed, decrescenoed in waves like the tide that was all around us. (We were surrounded by water, both ocean and rain). I don't remember breathing during this song, though my heart was definately beating! (Boblinks) |

Review by Carsten Wohlfeld Even though this last one was probably the weakest show of the six I got to see this week, I was very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the shows throughout the tour. Charlie isn’t doing much (yet), mainly playing rhythm guitar, but at least that helps to keep the band together and make the sound tighter. I don’t think he’ll stay with Dylan for too long if he position doesn’t change soon. A top player like him should have other things to do than playing easy chords for Bob. As I said in my first review already, the shows were very good, but kinda uneventful still. They just had too much stuff that was repeated every night. Hopefully Bob will abandon the idea of the double-headlining act soon and weill return to this usual 110-minute show. Til next time, take care of yourself and each other ;-). (Boblinks) |

Review by Brad Shafran EThe acoustic section was enjoyable highlighted by "Girl Of The North Country" and "Tangled Up In Blue." "Tangled" started strong but Dylan lost his way halfway through. He missed the "She was workin' in a topless place" verse and seemed to go off-course there. His harp playing was pleasant even if it couldn't get all the people out of their seats and dancing. Still, I would pay any amount just to hear any version of "Tangled." "All Along The Watchtower" was surprisingly immaculate. Dylan's voice was strong and, as the video screens finally were turned on, I could see he was clearly enjoying his time on stage. "Shelter From the Storm" came as a surprise as I haven't seen it on many set-lists this tour while "Maggie's Farm" shocked me in the next position. I certainly didn't see it coming. (I could be wrong on the regularity of these songs but I don't think they have appeared that much this summer) (Boblinks) |
