Review by Jordan Wilfong
At the conclusion of yet another moving performance, Bob Dylan stood
center stage under the spotlight, surrounded by his band of supremely
talented musicians led by the gifted guitarist Charlie Sexton. For
just a few moments Bob stepped forward, leaving the band behind as the
appreciative crowd roared. He then quickly turned back, and with a
workmanlike manner signaled that it was time to call it a night.
Standing just a few feet away from Dylan, you could tell by his facial
expression that he knew it was time to move on, to keep moving forward.
He'd done his job again, and he did it well.

Review
by Iris Seifert
The venue being intimate (2500), the spark hopped instantly with the first note
of Cat's in the well off the stage and set an eager audience on fire, which in
turn seemed to ignite fireworks from the stage with sizzling renderings of Levee,
Honest with me and the obligatory Hwy 61 and Summer Days, interlaced with a
poignant and tickling version of It's all right Ma, and a wonderfully revamped
reggae version of Things have changed, some hints in Spirit on the Water, a
spirited Tangled up in Blue (a super crowd pleaser with an excellent acoustic
intro by Mr. Kimball), and an inspired Trying to get to Heaven before they close
the door, not to mention a version of Nettie Moore after Hwy 61 that needed to
be a bit faster to absorb the heat of the previous song and to set the stage for
Summer Days; but just as you were already convinced of the Gold Medal, here
comes the climax with Ballad of a Thin Man, where Mr. Dylan again saved the his
best for last with the harp, just when it seems that something cannot be topped.

We settled in for Bob and Band. I will not provide a play by play because I
think it's all great. I will provide highlights though. The opener, Bob's voice,
" If it keeps on rainin' the levee's gonna breakkkkk"....superb vocal
and a tight as you get band. The conclusion of Tom Thumb,... each night of the
tour crept through with the final line...To Ramona, it sounded Tex
Mex...beutiful with a soulful harmonica solo. I thought of the Late freddie
Fender and still do not know why. Desolation Row...could'nt believe it...From my
shower to the spectrum....I was enjoying the show. Hollis Brown, the highlight
for me of the meeting....Bob would not let the lyric go...Love the rift of
Spirit on the Water, Love the change of pace...waiting to exhale. Nettie More
superb, Donnie's fiddle playing haunting....

They seemed tired, but the crowd didn't care at all. Quick
notes: Wicked Messenger...Good Harmonica You Ain't Going
Nowhere...No harmony, Good Harmonica She Belongs to
Me...Larry on Pedal Steel makes it Highwater...Very strong
blues, starts without Tony's bass, very effective when he
starts Memphis Blues..emphasis on "i know what you
want" Joey...Hard Rock, first decent Freddie lead,
Dylan"s cheat sheet doesn't help him, but he is
dancing between verses, and we all forgive him anyway.

Review by Frank Moriarty
A quick word on Bob’s vocals this evening. In addition
to being sharply focused, there was a fairly interesting
mix of the “growl” and smooth vocals – he would
“growl” a little at times, but quickly segue into a
smoother delivery, often in the same sentence – as if he
could turn this new found vocal edginess on and off at
will. As if this was a new trick in his bag and not the
dying embers of a great flame.
(Bob Links)
Review by
Cary Krosinsky
And I also have to say that either I was deaf that night
or Freddy has since fundamentally altered his approach.
Regardless, having played guitar myself for 25 years, I
know how difficult it can be to come up with something
original. What Koella is now playing with Bob is stunning
in both its simplicity and its originality - and that is a
very difficult balance to achieve. He's using a standard
rock and blues vocabulary, but he's twisting it in a way
that makes it sound vibrant and fresh.

And then came one of the best surprises of the night, "A Satisfied Mind,"
the old Porter Wagoner country hit that serves as the intro to Saved. And
tonight Bob did it the way it's usually done, country style with fantastic
harmonies from Larry and Charlie in one truly glorious rendition. (And for those
who pay attention to such things, it should be noted that Ian & Sylvia also
covered this song on their album Play One More, the same album that includes a
song Dylan has tried on a few occasions, "The French Girl.")

Review by Peter Stone Brown
The Troc kept a long line of people waiting in a pouring rain while they
searched everyone, but that was forgotten the minute Dylan launched into a lean,
rocking "Maggie's Farm." "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here" kept
things moving, but the show changed dramatically with the first beat of
"Cold Irons Bound." The band set up an impecabble Howlin' Wolf type
groove and Dylan just totally leaned into the song, phrasing it a bit
differently than the record. He made each line count and the band just wailed
and didn't let up. It was amazing. A very strong "Born In Time Followed,"
and like the three songs before it, it had a beginning a definite end, and Dylan
seemed focused not only on the song, but his musicianship, leaving the majority
of lead guitar in Larry Campbell's Hands. "Can't Wait" took the show
up another three notches. Dylan is not doing my favorite songs from the album,
but it doesn't matter because the band is so damn hot on these songs, making
every beat count and performed live the songs do not have the doom 'n' gloom
mood of the album because Dylan is having such a good time playing and singing
them.

Review by Patrick Urban
Perhaps the best part of Bob's shows is the anticipation of a song you would
like to hear that he just might play. It rained all day prior to this show,
making for a miserable day. I hoped for "Hard Rain", in recognition of
the weather, but instead, Dylan launched into Shelter from the Storm. I'll take
it. This was a great version, slowed down from the "Blood on the
Tracks" rendition. Dylan hit most of the verses, and the audience echoed
"Shelter from the storm" every time it came around. About this time,
Dylan seemed to realize this crowd was really into the show, and began shuffling
around the stage, almost dancing, and walking out towards the crowd when playing
lead. He continued this for the rest of the show. Silvio ended the first
electric set; the concert just kept getting better. From the first notes of the
acoustic guitar, the crowd guessed Love minus Zero, No limit, and cheered the
selection. Dylan sang it perfectly. Next up was an inspired Tangled up in Blue,
which really won the crowd over. They were one with Dylan as they all shouted
Tangled up in blue together. This song probably brought the loudest applause of
the evening, prior to the encores. I saw this same song performed at Hershey a
week ago, and it was nothing compared to the emotion Dylan evoked on this
evening
