Review by Craig Wainright There were many highlights to this night each song really was a totally new experience....you sit like a child as though you are listening to new story for the very first time...but for me...the standout songs were ...You aint a Goin Nowhere, Spirit on the Water, Tangled Up in Blue, Summer Days....but the absolute best were Hard Rains A Gonna fall Aint talkin and Ballad of a Thin Man......sung so beautifully ..... Normally 66 year old men if they are still singing have come OUT OF retirement and are doing the small venues dragging in the old folk for a ''meal and concert deal'' ...but not this old man....hes still twinkling his toes....bringing people of all ages The baby boomers of the sixties and everyone imbetween the baby boomers children.....who have grown up listening to their Parents music whether they liked to or not ...but who ended up in the end coming out on this night because they were compelled to come and witness a STILL relevant musical legend who remains a force in music whos always shedding another layer of skin...why because he has stayed true to his roots....and true to his ownself....and for me ....humble....before a greater force in this world...the all seeing eye... Thanks Bob for a memorable night (Bob Links) |

Review by Greg Brennan after standing at the front row of the dome stage from 2pm Bob walked on stage at about 745pm.He went straight into Tweedle Dumb,a really rock'in version with good clear sound where we were, although Larry was signalling to the sound board asking for him to be turned down. This happened to most acts all throughout the event on their fist song. Bob finished of with a signature "Thankyouuuu",the only time he would speak to the crowd, which is a good thing when there is only enough time for 12 songs. Both Bob &the Band were both obviously enjoying themselves, smiling throughout the whole show. Billy is settling in nicely,he didn't make any mistakes as far as I could tell, mainly playing a red Telecaster, matching the bands suits. Highlights were a great version of " Just like A Woman" with Larry on peddle steel, which you could hear the whole crowd singing the chorus& the only song of the encore "All Along The Watchtower" which Bob gave a nod and a smile to two pre teenage boys who were allowed to sit inside the crowd barrier, which they loved. All in all,a short but a very sweet show, enjoyed by everyone even the boss. We hung around due to a rumour that Bob was to play a song with Ray Charles, but sadly this did not eventuate. Review by Sue Robinson THighlights: Bob's harp playing, improved out of sight since last tour's tentative efforts. The Wicked Messenger - absolutely searing rendition, I thought Patti's version was good, but this took it to another level. Standing in the Doorway, one of my absolute favourites, starts beautifully and would have been a highlight, but lost it's way lyrically - oh well! maybe next time. Watchtower and Hwy61 - simply smokin' Desolation Row and Visions in the one show! The show ends with 8,000 folk heading off into the night on a real high, everyone smiling. We feel very lucky to have six more shows to look forward to. (Bob Links) |

Review by Carsten Wohlfeld Positively 4th Street Well, since I've heard what many people regard as the best two live versions of this song ever - Berlin and Magdeburg 1996 - live and in colour it's always very hard for me to like this song. Tonight it was pretty good though, complete with nice new phrasing and long pauses between the start and the end of the line. You'll know what I mean when you hear the tape! (Bob Links) |
