According to my calculations, with the help of Olaf Bjouner's
extensive chronicles, this was the band's 405th show. Tony
Garnier 1st on the seniority list, with 2026 shows under his
belt. George Receli, 705. Stu Kimbal 483, Denny Freeman
and Donnie Herron 405. This was Bob's 2104th show since the so called
never ending tour began. This was my 12th Bob show! Bob
has been good to city of Montreal the last 3 years, playing 3
show in that span, the city where I was born and raised.
Welcome back to Montreal Bob, hope you enjoyed your day off on
the 17th spent that day touring this great sexy city.
On with the show: I'd say it was an average show,
with a few songs (below) that covered the price of admission.
The highlights were; Lay Lady Lay surprisingly, Lonesome day
blues, Spirit on the water, Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum,
This Wheel's on Fire, and Ain't Talkin'.
The average songs; The Levee's Gonna Break, John Brown,
Stuck inside of mobile with the memphis blues again,
Highway 61, Masters of war, and Like a rolling stone that

I was looking forward to last night’s concert and considering how
fortunate we were to have Bob Dylan visit us again so soon after his
November 2006 show at the Bell Centre (12,000 capacity). Last night’s
performance was at the main concert hall at Place des Arts, a smaller
concert venue (3,000 capacity) as part of the Le Festival International de
Jazz de Montreal. The previous night Van Morrison performed on the same
stage. Ticket prices were high priced and being such perhaps prevented
some new younger fans from attending the show and appreciating the music.
The summer of love was forty years ago and here was Bob Dylan still
touring and performing his songs and music as relevant today as 1967. It
was great to see Bob Dylan playing guitar again on the first four tunes of
this concert before switching back to the keyboards. The sound was concert
hall clear and his band was grooved. A highlight for me was “Shelter
From the Storm” with Dylan playing a beautiful sounding harp and
“Chimes Of Freedom” perhaps in consideration of July 4th.

This was my first Dylan concert even though i am a huge fan of his music.
I was excited to go because (a) Bob Dylan is performing and (b) Foo
Fighters are the opening band. The night started off with a terrific
performance by the Foo Fighters. They played an acoustic set which got the
crowd mad with excitement. The Foo Fighters are an extremely talented band
wiht a terrific drummer and guitarist. Then, after Foo Fighters finish
there is a long (longer than usual) delay. Finally Dylan takes the stage
with such swiftness like he was summoned by the loud shouts of the crowd.
Absolutely Sweet Marie was played excellently with better guitar solos.
During Senor, Bob's voice became truly lively as the song progressed. This
song is a sweet song which i find is way under-rated. Stuck Inside Of
Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again was played with such a new and vibrant
energy that got the crowd dancing. To my surprise, he played this song to
its fullest by playing the rhythm well passed the normal duration of the
song.

I did not think that Bob could ever rival Hendrix on "Watchtower",
but I have never heard it like this! It was incredible. He repeated the
first verse at the end, making what seemed like a once in a lifetime
experience stretch a little further. The entire audience danced throughout
the song. If dancing during the apocalypse, or its anthem, is only
appropriate for people of faith, obviously Bob made believers of all of us
tonight. Thanks Bob.

After River Flow there were a few strange chords, sounded like someone had
capoed on the wrong fret or something. Larry had a bouzouki. All of a
sudden I was hearing the unmistakable chords of Blind Willie McTell, sans
piano, electric/acoustic bouzouki version. No one in the crowd seemed to
know what it was and I started hollering. I should say that I haven't
hollered at a concert in about 20 years. I knew BWMcTell was a possibility
from the sound check report a couple days ago, but didn't actually think
I'd be there at the premiere, if there ever was one. Once they sorted out
what the hell they were doing (tooks a few bars), this settled into an
amazing Arabian (swear to God) influenced BWMcTell. A modal chord vamp
running throughout over top of the regular chords, definitely middle
eastern, not something from the versions we know (never heard that cover
version of it though). "Seen the arrow on the doorpost..." Every
was beautiful, you could tell Bob had been getting ready to sing this one
for a while. I'm outta words for this one. Crowd roared at the end.
