The newer material is, as a rule, less subject to Dylan's alterations than his old standards. Both "Love Sick" and "Summer Days" are crisp and slick, and "Cold Irons Bound" is quite stunning, with a hypnotic, stealthy tread that, in the show's most expertly wielded dynamic, becomes predatory and, finally, darkly majestic. Review by Sasch Krieger Talking about the band: The switch from Freddie Koella to Stu Kimball did the band a lot of good. Kimball knows exactly what he's doing at all times, he is as good at rhythm driven rocking numbers as he at little blues licks and shining guitar solos during ballads. Larry Campbell will be the happiest as he now has a partner again with whom he can actually play. They certainly did a fine job playing off each other. This band is a whole again as it has not been since Charlie Sexton left. (Bob Links) |

Review by Ian Blagborough Unlike Bournemouth with its snarling, tonight there was singing, real harmony in Humming Bird and Times, the voice on-song (sorry) from the off, and it kept going. It did not break away by #8, but it did the silly three on one note and then a very high note only occasionally, which was used to ruin (or re-interpret) several famous songs in Bournemouth. 2.5 hours covering real folk, some country, excellent R&B, a touch of lounge, powerful R&R, the band are excellent. Finally, there is no obvious difficulty with Larry Campbell, I cannot remember when Bob allowed a band member front and centre twice, that is without him, to start songs. Larry takes lead as often as Charlie, Dylan's turned back and close work with Charlie are more to do with Bob working with Charlie than anything against Larry (you can read some rubbish on rec.music.dylan). Review by Annie White The absolute highlight for me was the harp solo on 'Don't Think Twice' - sooooo emotional - also the slow, studied 'Tryin' To Get To Heaven'. And whilst I do love 'It's Alright Ma' I was so hoping for 'Desolation Row' - and there it was! (Whilst driving across the Downs in Bristol prior to going to Cardiff for the concert I couldn't help but notice the Moscow State Circus was in town - was this an omen - the circus *was* in town - yes it was!)
