Review by Stephen Solis

The simple red curtain being used as a backdrop, which is gigantic, is pulled back revealing another backdrop that will grow and add to the show just like the music will, as Dylan works through the predetermined 14 song set. The lights change and the band is illuminated in such a strange way that it would take too many words but do know that it was very appealing. The next stretch continues the strange arrangements but again your focus and your guide are the lyrics. Positively 4th Street, 'Til I Fell In Love With You, and It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding). People start leaving at this point but the ones who stay must be figuring something out. They are more energized and it seems they have committed to the show, reciprocating the energy that Dylan has obviously put into this evening. It's Alright, Ma is difficult, defiant and eerie. Lyrics are being shouted, the guitars are dissonant and Dylan's keyboard is more horror movie than melodic companion. It is staccato, creating a second rhythm with his voice, similar in style, creating a third. I couldn't tell if I enjoyed it because it was hitting different emotions than I normally get a concerts, but I knew that I was engrossed and overwhelmed. This isn't just a show for Dylan. He is trying to provide an EVENT for the listener.

Review by Stephen Piers

Since no one has "stepped up to the plate" yet, I would like to say a few words about Sunday's performance at the Hoover Met. INCREDIBLE!!! Bob was right on in his delivery from start to finish. The newest members of the band have huge ears and nimble fingers and the rock solid groove layed down by Tony and George was as usual, perfect. I could not have hoped for a nicer playlist either. From the smokin' "Drifter's Escape", "God Knows", "Highway 61" & "High Water" to the lovely & tender readings of "Love Minus Zero", "Shooting Star" (maybe the finest harp solo I've ever heard), "Tryin' To Get To Heaven" & "Boots of Spanish Leather" to the wonderfully obscure "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine", it was one BEAUTIFUL show! What an honor to be treated to all this in our local minor league park. Thanks Bob. We love you.

Review by Michael T. Nix
With all the positives I have to say that the new lead guitarist seems to be a terrible choice. Larry Campbell plays rings around him and Larry's licks fit where the new kid's don't. Sometimes Dylan's choices of musicians don't make sense to me right away but I can see the logic later. About this one I just don't know. I understand the pursuit of a Dick Dale sound but it just seems to be a weak spot every time he steps out. Maybe it'll gel soon but if it doesn't Bob should reconsider his choice and look for a replacement. But to anyone who is put off by the idea of Bob playing an entire concert on keys I say don't be. It's another side of Bob Dylan and an interesting and inspiring one.

Senor!!! -Not standard anymore! I was almost sure "ill be your baby tonight" was coming, but no sir. That day off for the trip to the midwest must have made bobby bust out different stuff. true to the album version. Dont think too many ppl outside the first 10 rows knew it. It's alright ma -Knew it was coming. I hadnt heard this one in concert before. He got kinda hard to understand for those who didnt already know the words but i did so i thought it rocked. Girl of the North Country -sounded like 'dont think twice' which my sister was dying to hear, she was disappointed as of now. Nice soft accoustic song here. Favorite so far tonight. Solid Rock -first time id heard this song. not bad, not outta this world. Took me a minute to figure out what it was. Just Like A woman -Awesome performance of this song. first real crowd pleaser and they responded well. Bob played harp at the beginning but no one in the band seemed to know how long it was sposed to last. bob would put in a couple licks then look back at the other guys like "do i keep going" and this went on a bit. "aint it clear that iiiiiiiiiiiii, i just JUST-DONT-FIT" Lonesome Day Blues -when this song started i was thinkin 'eh, its ok i guess' but wow i cant believe how the crowd gets into the new love and theft stuff. from here the show got momentum and never stopped. lots of dancing and bob and the boys were jammin and jammin. Highwater -back to back Love and theft selections. no more banjo in this one. the emphasis on this tours shows seems to be for the guys to sit back and really jam on those guitars and they did it again here. wow. Dont think twice -my sis recognized it right away as did the rest of the crowd. awesome singing on this one. just perfect. buy the bootleg if only for this song. masters of war -as usual great. as if he's scolding the microphone, backing up then walking up and spiting lines in, then backing up again One Too many morings -Another pretty rare one. softly sung like the other acoustic numbers, contrasted nicely with the following.... Summer Days -one of my dads faves. this one jammed tonight. bob and charlie did the guitar dueling thing and bob had some huuuuge grins back at the drummer, who was friggin great by the way. seemed like this song lasted for 15 minutes as the guitars kept poundin out killer licks. awesome. standing in the doorway -I was the first person out of us front row dylan freaks to figure out what this was. Id never heard this song in concert either. i always got cold irons bound and love sick from TOOM, but i like this one much better. powerful lyrics here. Cold Irons Bound -slowed it down for standin in the doorway, then they came back and rocked the house with this one again. im tellin ya i had a large sweat worked up and my legs and feet hurt from bouncin around up front so much. never seen so much loud electric played by the zim. love every minute of it!

Review by David Berry
Standing in the second row to the right of me is a father and his teenage son. To the left of me is a mother with a baby in her arms. Behind me is a group of college students. That alone has some magic to it. Have they come to hear? Have they come to see? In my mind any time you can see a great artist live it is the way music needs to be heard. Maybe that's why the ages are here. He rocks and he rolls. He glares, grimaces, and growls. He mumbles and tumbles like a boxer in a fight. In fact when it all boils down the words of Kristofferson come to mind.
He's a poet
He's a picker
He's a prophet
 He's a pusher
He's a pilgrim and a preacher
He's a walking contradiction
Partly truth and partly fiction While each tune has its elements that make it unique I couldn't help but enjoying Watching the River Flow, Blue Eyed Jane, and Don't Think Twice. Not because they were part of a great performance but because like any artist doing their craft it was his. I've had the good fortune to see and hear some of the old bluesmen live. They lived to play music. Music is what defined them, made them what they were. In fact they lived the music that they wrote and sang and performed. In my mind Dylan is right there with those guys.
