Review by Jodi Pred Dylan's set list was great--first time I've seen him do "I Don't Believe You" and "To Ramona." His new interpretations/arrangements are genius. The version I saw two years ago of "It's Alright Ma," with Larry Campbell playing the bozouki or whatever was untoppable, but this version was completely different and just as good. "Tweedle Dee"--which I've never cared for before, made total sense this time: a dance tune! It rocked! They did an extended jam somewhere, I think on "She Belongs to Me," which was swinging. All the best solos of the night were Bob's harp solos. He did some great chordy solo on organ, too...I forget where. (Bob Links) |

Review by Bob Bowser Then, out of nowhere..."Unbelievable"!!!! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this was the first version since 95. There was a mis-step or two on the breaks, but all in all a fantastic job on a song I hope becomes a regular part of the rotation (especially apt for this day and age!) (Bob Links) |

Review by Matthew Martin Bob didn't play very much melody on the piano, but rather was banging out chords, using the instrument as a percussion tool. The three exceptions to this style formed the core of the show, a lovely Every Grain of Sand, followed by a strong Dignity (although the Man did muff one line, saying "Someone handed me a photograph and I had to laugh, Dignity never been photographed."), and concluding with the best song of the night, Blind Willie. On these, particularly Blind Wille, Bob played deliciously, weaving back and forth in that unique, herky-jerky, leg twitching juking that makes you think perhaps a big bolus of Ritilan might be in order. Review by Mary Jorens It was the best I've ever experienced of the many Dylan concerts I've attended over the years. My heart is still pounding at noon the following day. Visions of Johanna, All Along the Watchtower, Wicked Messenger, Highway 61, all were incredible! Looking for a Soldier's Grave was done with such tenderness that it can't be described. A gem. Vintage Bobby. He played with energy for 2 and a half hours. It's difficult to believe he'll be celebrating his 60th birthday in just a few days. He is a truly great artist of the likes we'll never see again. Live long and well, Bob. And thanks! Many, many thanks, for the music and the memories. Come back to the Carolinas soon! (Bob Links) |
